Hydrogen demand from the 350-bar commercial vehicle segment continues to grow. Numerous companies in Germany are already operating hydrogen-powered lorries in daily service—such as the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell. Many rely on flexible rental models like those offered by Cologne-based company hylane. Other providers, such as PAUL Nutzfahrzeuge, also offer production-ready, subsidy-eligible hydrogen trucks for purchase or lease, including the PH2P Truck. (c) H2 MOBILITY
Berlin, 10 April 2025 | A significant shift is underway in Germany’s hydrogen mobility landscape. H2 MOBILITY’s targeted establishment of 350-bar refuelling capabilities is paying off: for the first time in the company’s history, the share of hydrogen dispensed at 350 bar exceeded that at 700 bar, accounting for well over 50 percent in March 2025. At the same time, total hydrogen sales increased by 10 percent compared to the same month last year.
This turning point reflects a fundamental change in customer behaviour at H2 MOBILITY’s hydrogen refuelling stations and signals a powerful trend toward the commercial vehicle sector—particularly hydrogen-powered buses and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
Adding further weight to this development is the shift in transaction patterns. Despite the increase in overall hydrogen volumes, the number of individual refuelling operations declined. This is due to more frequent use by vehicles with larger tanks—primarily from the commercial and heavy-duty segments. Fewer transactions paired with higher overall volumes clearly underline the growing role of buses and lorries in the hydrogen ecosystem.
“The figures speak volumes: our investment in 350-bar infrastructure is clearly delivering results. Heavy-duty transport is becoming a key driver of hydrogen mobility,” says Martin Jüngel, Managing Director and CFO of H2 MOBILITY. “This is a strong endorsement of our strategy, and we will continue to tailor our refuelling stations to meet the needs of bus and lorry fleets. The fact that the newly formed government has clearly committed to supporting hydrogen infrastructure for commercial vehicles in its coalition agreement is a strong political signal and a clear confirmation of our strategic direction.”
As demand for hydrogen mobility grows, H2 MOBILITY remains committed to expanding robust, high-performance hydrogen refuelling solutions—and to actively shaping the future of clean transportation.
About H2 MOBILITY
H2 MOBILITY is a pioneer in the development of public hydrogen refuelling infrastructure and Europe’s largest operator of hydrogen stations. Its business areas include the technical development, financing, planning, construction, marketing and operation of the stations. H2 MOBILITY was founded in 2015 as a project company with the aim of promoting hydrogen as an emission-free fuel in road transport. In 2022, the project company became a long-term, commercially oriented company with the aim of contributing to the energy transition in transport through a high-performance hydrogen refuelling station network. H2 MOBILITY has set itself the goal of switching completely to renewable hydrogen by 2028.
