Berlin, 20 Sep 2022 | Just in time for IAA, H2 MOBILITY Germany has made it possible to refuel medium- and heavy-duty hydrogen (H2) commercial vehicles at the Shell station near the trade fair grounds, at Karlsruher Straße 12. Among other things, Daimler Truck will refuel the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 prototype with green hydrogen here during the IAA Transportation to enable selected visitors to take a ride in the H2 truck. By expanding the Laatzen station, the world’s leading hydrogen filling station operator H2 MOBILITY continues on its path of integrating refuelling facilities for H2 commercial vehicles.

In Germany, drivers of hydrogen cars can already refuel at around 100 hydrogen filling stations. At all hydrogen filling stations, fuel-cell cars and light commercial vehicles can fill up with 5 to 8 kilogrammes of hydrogen at 700 bar. Beyond this, more and more locations are able to supply medium to heavy commercial vehicles (tank systems up to 40 kilograms) with hydrogen at 350 bar .

H2 MOBILITY Germany sees the greatest growth potential for hydrogen-powered mobility in the regional medium-haul transport of goods and people. Here, the company relies on the 350-bar technology solution, which is robust and economically viable in the medium term and competitive in the short term.

With this in mind, H2 MOBILITY is expanding the H2 filling station network in focus regions for commercial vehicles as well, in line with demand and including along the TEN-T corridors,: Short-term, existing hydrogen refuelling stations will be expanded to include a 350 bar offer according to demand, while new, larger refuelling stations with 350 bar (for tank systems up to 40 kg) and 700 bar (for tank systems up to 10 kg) capacity will be built where significant, plannable demand can be expected.

The standards for hydrogen storage and refuelling of heavy commercial vehicles that travel long distances with a demand of >80 kg hydrogen are still under discussion. H2 MOBILITY Germany is represented on the relevant decision-making bodies of/set up by the vehicle industry, logistics companies, gas network operators, and politics, and contributes the arguments from its practical experience as the world’s largest operator.

Production using green electricity is a prerequisite if CO2 emissions are to be reduced with hydrogen. Accordingly, H2 MOBILITY is a reliable partner in supporting the ramp-up of renewable hydrogen made in Germany. The H2 MOBILITY offer is to be converted to 100% green H2 by 2030.
