Berlin, 26 April 2018. The Nuremberg metropolitan region will receive five more hydrogen stations at a single stroke: four (Bayreuth, Biebelried, F\u00fcrth and Schnelldorf) will be built as part of H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY\u2019s regular network planning, while a fifth location \u2013 Erlangen \u2013 has successfully prevailed in the second appeal to regions, with 20 declarations of intent to purchase hydrogen cars and an integrated concept for hydrogen generation and storage. This means that hydrogen pioneers in the region will soon be able to refuel at a total of eight locations in Nuremberg and the surrounding area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG issued its second appeal to regions to apply for a hydrogen filling station. At least 15 signed LOIs (Letter of Intent) for the purchase of a hydrogen-powered vehicle were considered a prerequisite. In all, more than 400 LOIs were submitted by companies and individuals from 13 regions.<\/p>\n

\u201cErlangen convinced us primarily with its integrated concept,\u201d says Lorenz Jung, who lead-managed the call and is responsible for the roll-out of filling stations at H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY. \u201cWe are planning the hydrogen filling station on the Siemens AG campus, and will benefit from the many activities in the field of hydrogen generation and storage that are being established here. Among other things, Siemens will operate an electrolyser powered by a PV system, for generating hydrogen from renewables. \u00a0Hydrogenious Technologies will demonstrate the recovery and supply of hydrogen from delivered LOHC using a \u2018release box\u2019. We also enjoy the support of the city of Erlangen and the municipal utilities, which signed letters of intent to purchase hydrogen cars in response to the appeal to regions.\u201d<\/p>\n

In accordance with the network plans, the Nuremberg metropolitan region will also get four other stations in addition to Erlangen \u2013 in Bayreuth, Biebelried, F\u00fcrth and Schnelldorf. The stations will be integrated into existing TOTAL, Shell and OMV service stations. The technology comes from the plant and gas manufacturers Air Liquide and Linde. H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY is already building a station in Berg near Hof, and hydrogen filling stations have already opened in Nuremberg, Langwasser and Geiselwind. This means that the alternative fuel hydrogen will be available at eight locations in and around Nuremberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nuremberg Metropolitan Region will play a purposeful role in shaping the mobility shift. We want an energy and transport transition towards zero-emission drives and will support the technical options as best we can. Fuel cells using hydrogen play an important role. We are pleased about H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY\u2019s commitment to expending the hydrogen filling station network, and want to do our part to ensure a rapid development of hydrogen mobility in our region,\u201d commented Prof. Dr. Klaus L. W\u00fcbbenhorst, Chairman of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.<\/p>\n

Investment costs for the hydrogen infrastructure are still high. For this reason, H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY is receiving funding for the construction projects in the metropolitan region both from the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure\u2019s National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP), and from the European projects COHRS (Connecting Hydrogen Refuelling Stations) and H2ME (Hydrogen Mobility Europe), which is funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (FCH 2 JU, Grant Agreement No. 671438).<\/p>\n

Hydrogen as fuel \u2013 Clean mobility<\/strong>
\nSame easy handling, same speed, same range \u2013 and all of it with hardly any noise or pollutants. Hydrogen vehicles have ranges of around 500 km and can refuel in just 3 minutes at conventional filling stations. Most hydrogen stations are integrated into existing service stations; their design is space-saving design and mainly uses standardised components.<\/p>\n

About H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY
\n<\/strong>H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for the nationwide rollout of a hydrogen infrastructure for fuel cell passenger cars in Germany (700 bar technology). Its first goal through to 2019 is to commission up to 100 stations in seven major urban areas across Germany (Hamburg, Berlin, Rhine-Ruhr, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Munich) and along trunk roads and motorways. As more hydrogen-powered vehicles take to the roads, up to 400 hydrogen service stations will be installed to secure nationwide fuel supply. H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY sees to all operative tasks, including network planning, authorisation, procurement, installation and commissioning.<\/p>\n

H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY\u2019s shareholders are Air Liquide, Daimler, Linde, OMV, Shell and TOTAL. Associated partners that work with H2<\/sub>\u00a0MOBILITY in an advisory capacity include BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota and Volkswagen as well as NOW GmbH (National Organisation for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology).<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>The Nuremberg metropolitan region comprises 23 administrative districts and 11 independent towns \u2013 from the Thuringian district of Sonneberg in the north, to the district of Wei\u00dfenburg-Gunzenhausen in the south, from the district of Kitzingen in the west, and the district of Tirschenreuth in the east.
